WiFi Calling | VoWiFi - Emerging Technology In 2020

You would have heard about using VoLTE (Voice Over LTE) in which your data packets or voices are transferred through mobile signals. Similarly, here's a new technology called VoWifi aka Voice Over Wifi/Wifi Calling. 

It recently launched as an alternative to VoLTE networks. Here voice packets are transferred by using only Wifi Signals. The advantages of using Wifi Calling is that it don't need any mobile network signals to make a call rather it needs only a Wifi connection. Your voice as well as SMS is carried by Wifi signals in this type of calling. To use Wifi calling, your device should have the latest OS and a supporting handset. This also don't need any software to make calls. In India, there are only two service providers till date which are Jio and Airtel to support WiFi Calling. OTA Updates are being given to most the devices and there are even more than 100 devices to support this technology in India. Make sure that your phone is updated and Wi-Fi Calling option is enabled in the settings menu. WiFi Calling does not mean that it will make calls totally free. You should have a plan in your SIM. This only transmit your voice packets through the Wi-Fi signals rather than calling someone without any charges. 

If Wi-Fi calling supports your device and it is enabled at the same time, you only need to connect the Wi-Fi and then automatically that VoLTE symbol will change to VoWiFi which means your phone is now ready to make calls through WiFI. Some screenshots are provided below for your reference:
